Yesterday My Colleague Ratheesh & I were having a conversation... He asked me, "What is meant by Spirituality? He wanted me to explain Spirituality in a simple way and it should also be very easy to understand for a person who is not spiritual. I pondered for a while on the subject and told him, Ratheesh, " SPIRITUALITY means surrendering completely to your inner self"
What does it mean Ratheesh asked? Does it mean that I have to lead a life without any Aspiration or Desire?
Absolutely not! On the contrary, It is perfectly alright to have Aspirations and Desires, I said. One need not suppress his desires in order to evolve in to a spiritual being. As long as one has unsatisfied desires, the person will not be able to advance in his spiritual quest.
Then What is the purpose of Life?
The purpose of life is " TO BE HAPPY". For Ex: A person works all his life and accumulates Wealth and Material possessions. It definitely gives them Happiness, Although it is transient happiness.
How do I know What I need to do in order to be happy? How do I understand what I want, asked Ratheesh?
Its easier said than done, I said. But lets try.
I asked him to list out every thing he wants from this life like Bike, Car, Villa, Good looking wife, Happy marriage, Foreign Trips, Vacations and just about anything that comes across his mind. Then check where you stand versus where you want to go? I linked it to individual goals and told him that he should have clearly set goals for his short term, medium term and long term. Goals also should be linked to:
Where do you stand as of now Ratheesh? In the present life stage I am more concerned about the Career and Personal Goals, replied Ratheesh
We concluded the discussion by deciding on Ratheesh's action plan for the weekend, i.e. drafting his personal and career goals for the short run.
